Hispanics in the American Revolution
Noon-4pm, Sully Historic Site, 703-437-1794. Did you know that Hispanics were significant contributors to the success of the American colonies in their struggle for independence from Great Britain? Spanish speaking troops from North and South America, the Caribbean, and the Iberian Peninsula fought on the American side during The Revolutionary War. A letter from General Bernardo de Galvez to Patrick Henry, then governor of Virginia, pledged support for the colonies by providing intelligence information, money and supplies to the American cause. The recreated Spanish Louisiana Regiment presents scenes of 18th century military and civilian life including tactical demonstrations, musket firing, drill, and camp life. $6/adult, $4/child
