Local Teens and Responsibility
By: Celia Glenn

With the 2008 elections just finished and the society and culture we live in today, with addictions and influence and peer pressure, do you think local teens are stepping up in responsibility and creating their own path, and becoming leaders, or going under the pressure and influence to drift behind? Just think about your neighbors, community, what you see on the TV and on the news about what teens are dealing with today. Teenagers and youth are the next generation of our nation. In order for them to accomplish all their dreams and wishes, they need to know how to be leaders. But not leaders of the bad stuff, but leaders that set their own goals to follow good role models and are wanted to be around. I don’t think local teens get the leadership attention they need right now. I’m not talking about drug dealers and gang leaders. I’m talking about class president, maybe newspaper writers, and other kinds of good leaders to help with the youth.

On a local TV channel, the host brought on the smartest and most talented kids from around the world. There were about ten of them. One of them had the talent of gab. He had the entire audience of the show motivated and inspired. He talked about what the audience believed he could do; whether it was become his dreams or what everyone around him told him he would fail at. The entire audience of adults was motivated by a thirteen year old! How did he do that you may ask? Well it’s quite simple actually. He has learned how to be a leader and speechmaker.
Just like that boy, one teen can make a difference in the community around them or in the world they are a part of. Get excited about an issue or a matter of opinion or seriousness or fact in the world, nation, state, or community. Do your research. If you’re planning to do something about the places around you, no matter what it is, make sure you know what you’re going up against.

Did you know that there’s a fourteen year old teen that has written a book about abolishing slavery around the world in all countries?! He’s often invited as a motivational speaker to concerts, festivals, and church retreats to speak to adults and people older than himself, including pastors, about what he’s determined to do around him.

This is what I like. He probably had his friends and the people around him telling him he was just a youth. He couldn’t affect really anything around him. But you know what? He went against that because he knew God was calling him to do this as an inspiration to the youth around him.
He knew that the adolescent in the world today needed Christ in order to get out of tough times. Well this all plays into being a leader. This fourteen year old knew about society and culture, for he is a teen himself, but he’s determined to help his friends around him.
Do your community a favor: become a leader.
