Village Arts is a new gallery just off Route 116, on the east side of Fairfield, PA, across from The Village Farm. They will have a Grand Opening Celebration on April 28, 2012.
Village Arts is in a restored barn that is a great example of adaptive reuse architecture. Fairfield, Pennsylvania is a town with a look of history and heritage. In keeping with that theme, Sally and Dean Thomas have put a lot of love in a building that was on the verge of demolition.
Sally said, “Our contractor told us that this barn has good bones. We couldn’t see tearing it down if it had potential.”
Using fine woods and many of the old timbers, the contractor kept the barn’s exterior with much the same lines that it had as a barn, but the interior is beautiful.
On two floors, Village Arts contains a changing collection of the works of local artists and craftsmen. It is a “must see” for anyone touring the Gettysburg area.
To celebrate the opening of this enchanting gallery, noted Civil War musician and TV personality, Kent Courtney will be performing at 1pm. He will be singing historical music, including songs from the Civil War.
Kent is frequently on The History Channel and has been seen and heard on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, BBC, Good Morning America, PBS, The Travel Channel, CNN, C-SPAN and National Public Radio.
In Smoke & Fire News, Matt Merta said of Kent Courtney, “For many years he has released tapes and CDs of period music that can be ranked as some of the best and most authentic interpretations...Courtney does strive for authenticity in his work and with Garryowen, he is probably the best at it today.”
He will have CDs available at Village Arts.
