The closest Metro stations are Federal Triangle, Metro Center and McPherson Square. Parking is very limited so public transportation is highly recommended.

The Winter Festival of Lights is always fun and easy for the whole family. The festival will be set up and open to all from now until January 1st. Hours are 5 to 9:30 daily. $5 per car; $15 for mini-buses and limos; $25 for buses; $10 for multi-visit passes for cars and vans (good for three visits). The festival is FREE on December 25. You may bring canned food items to donate to local food banks for the holidays. Winter Festival of Lights is Prince George’s County, Maryland’s spectacular drive-through Christmas light display featuring more than a million twinkling lights

The Holidays are upon us and we are all wrapped up in the hustle and bustle of everything. There are crowds to be fought and gift to be bought. What ever happened to the way Christmas used to be? The spirit is still there but it seems like the commercial part of things have taken over. Of course just about everything cost money but why not spend it on some good times with the family and friends. Take a look at some of the things I have found to do that will guarantee to get you in the Christmas Spirit.

Take a trip down to the Elipse. It will cost you nothing and the site is amazing. The Elipse is the beautiful grassy area south of the White House. There would will find an extravagant 60 foot Colorado Blue Spruce that illuminates the area with bright lights and decorations!

There are also different nightly activities and entertainment that are fee of charge, now through December 23rd. You can get a list of performers with dates and times at

At Mt. Vernon in Virginia you can tour the Mt. Vernon Estate December 12-14 while learning about the Christmas traditions of George Washington and his family as well as meet historical character along the way. Admission is $15 for adults and $8 for children under 12.

Walk the streets of Old Towne Alexandria

December 13, 2008, noon to 4:00 p.m. Experience the festive sights and sounds of Christmas during the Civil War at this popular family event that features living history, music of the period, decorations, refreshments and tours. It wouldn’t be Christmas without the Nutcracker! There are various versions of the notorious play from young to old, silly or sophisticated.

The Puppet Company in Glen Echo MD offers a child like version. They can be contacted by phone at 301-634-2222 for times and ticket information.
