2017 Virginia Legislative Wrap-Up

The key theme of the event is: Exploring the Role of Virginia State Government in the Trump Era- Can Richmond Legislators Give Us Hope? Join the discussion with our state legislators regarding the successes and failures of the 2017 General Assembly. Bring your questions and concerns. The event is free and open to the public. Organized by S.A.L.T and hosted by the School of Public and International Affairs at Virginia International University.

Second Saturday Art Walk

Description: Some days it’s fireworks. Other days, hula dancers and glass blowing demonstrations. You might even find craft beer tastings, live music, fire dancers, or plein air painting. You never know exactly what you’ll experience during a Second Saturday Art Walk at the Workhouse Arts Center, but we’ll definitely delight your senses and inspire your creativity. Join us from 6p-9p on the Second Saturday of each month to discover all the Workhouse Arts Center has to offer. Whether it’s your first visit or your hundredth, the Second Saturday Art Walk is the perfect time to meet nearly 100 Resident and Associate Artists, creating art in the studios or exhibiting in our galleries. Thrilling performances of dance, cabaret, comedy, big band, jazz, and theater. Indulgent classes in the art of mixology or cuisines from around the globe. Art exhibitions in nine galleries of the region’s finest sculpture, painting, glass, ceramics, and fiber art works. All of this excitement – and more – is tucked away at the Workhouse Arts Center, a 55-acre visual and performing arts center in Lorton, VA, located on the historic grounds of the former DC Correctional Facility at Lorton.

Maker Faire NoVa, 4th annual

Description: Maker Faire NoVa is a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy making, experimenting, learning and who love sharing what they can do. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue to for these “makers” to show hobbies, experiments, projects. We call it the Greatest Show (& Tell) on Earth — a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness. There are lots of hands-on activities, demonstrations, workshops, and speakers. There will also be food trucks. Glimpse the future and get inspired! Tickets are now on sale. Volunteers get free admission, see website to register. Parking is at Wiehle-Reston East Metro station garage with shuttle bus service to the site. Ticket prices vary by type and date purchased. Early Bird tickets on sale now through 2/17/17, $9 adult, $1, $7 senior. Family tickets available 2/18/17.
