Conewago Chapel Picnic - 2007
By: Kent Courtney

Heavenly weather made for a wonderful experience for attendees of the 267 year old tradition of Conewago Chapel's Picnic.

Jesuit Missionaries arrived in the Conewago area in the 1600s and by 1741 had established their presence at Conewago Chapel.  Missionary activity spread from this Chapel and it became a center of the Catholic Faith in South Central Pennsylvania and Central Maryland.

Children are the focus for family fun.  There's lots of games for kids of all ages.  There are simple games for the young ones and things for the older children and adults like the dime toss that require skill.  The Conewago Chapel Choir organizes the games.  The Headquarters Tent has tickets and prizes, too. The "General Store" allows you to win practical items like you would expect from a real store.
The entertainment is always first-rate with bands, strolling musicians, and face painting.  The Chicken Corn Soup and Fried Chicken are highlights of the Picnic.  People buy extra to take home.  It's excellent.  All the other summer-time favorites are there, too - Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Home-Fries, and more.
